President's Report to the Annual General Meeting
25th August 2007
On it's 60th Anniversary, our Society continues to attract new members, who participate in various aspects of our activities, In July, total membership reached 150. Participation of members, at various levels, makes our Society successful. Museum volunteer work, especially gardening, is popular.
Verlie Fowler resigned from the Committee in February for family reasons, but continues to write for our journals. We are indebted to Verlie for her contribution to the Society over a long period.
Following the resignation of Secretary Greg Simoni from the Committee in April this year, Jackie Green was appointed to the Committee, and volunteered her services as Acting Secretary. Other members of the committee also undertook extra duties. The dedication of Committee members cannot be overstated.
Two members of the Committee sit on Campbelltown City Council's Heritage Protection Sub-Committee.
A varied programme of speakers continues to attract good attendance at general meetings. Particularly popular this year was Denys Cato's enthralling account of his work in Disaster Medicine.
The theme of the Ivor G Thmas Memorial Lecture was Dr K O Jones and his thirteen years in the Campbelltown community. Over 140 members and guests were present at this occasion, held at Campbelltown Arts Centre on 23rd September 2006. The book on Dr Jones, launched at the lecture, was written by R T O (Bob) Jones, with the assistance of Terry Jones.
Journal articles included 'Federation and Beyond: The Marlow Collection' by Verlie Fowler and 'Growing up at Glen Lorne' by Eileen Thomson.
The Pillory was a popular feature of our exhibition at Campbelltown City Show. The Society presented photographic exhibitions at Ingleburn Alive Festival in March and at Campbelltown City Council's Focus on Ingleburn display in July, and sold books at fisher's Ghost Street Fair.
Society activities have been well publicised in the local media. We have produced a leaflet setting out our programme.
The website attracts enquiries from overseas and nation-wide, as well as from the local area.
