Activities in February and March 2011

 

February,

Tuesday 7th February. Open Day cancelled due to renovations of the house.

 

Saturday 11th February. Open Day. 10 am to 1 pm. Access to the house is limited due to renovations.

 

At 10.45am the launch of the Society's new Grist Mills will be held.


This booklet is entitled 'A History of Leumeah Estate' and has been written by Stella Vernon. It will tell the story of the area centred on John Warby's homestead, sometimes called 'Rudd's Town' Campbelltown, then the Campbelltown Estate, Leumeah and finally the Leumeah Estate, Campbelltown. It will detail the work of the Leumeah Progress Association, the building of the Progress Hall which became the Helen Stewardson Hall and its demolition.

 

Wednesday 15th February. Open Day cancelled due to renovations of the house.

 

Saturday 25th February. Meeting 1.30 pm. Access to the house is limited due to renovations.

Speaker for this month will be member Learna Coupe, who will describe her recent visit to Gallipoli as well as to tell us something of the Williamson family of Campbelltown, members of which were involved in the First World War.
Afternoon Tea will be provided.

 

March, Tuesday 6th March. Open Day cancelled due to renovations of the house.

Saturday 10th March. Open Day cancelled due to renovations of the house.

 

Wednesday 14th March. Open Day. 10 am to 1 pm. Dependent upon completion of house renovations.

 

Saturday 17th March.

Bus Tour: Details - a visit to the police and justice museum followed by Prince Henry hospital. Bring your own lunch or a chance to buy something will be provided. The cost is $35.00 but doesn't include entrance into Police museum to be paid separately $5 each.
Meet at 8.30 am at Richmond Villa.

 

Saturday 24th March. Meeting 1.30 pm then followed by Members Choice.
Speaker: Jeff McGill. Subject: "Dispatches from the front", in which he will not only quote from some of the most telling letters and diaries, but also highlight some of the more unusual or dramatic moments involving local men and women serving overseas.
Afternoon Tea will be provided.

 

Weekdays - The roses are out in the grounds and a weekday is a good time to see them and to see over Historic Glenalvon House and grounds at 8 Lithgow St., Campbelltown.

 

Glenalvon is a classic sandstone town house dating from 1843. On open mornings the property is open from 10am to 1pm and activities include tours of the house, heritage gardens, buildings and the Rural exhibition centre.
